A MESSAGE FROM OPERATIONS MANAGER, STEVE PYO

Season’s Greetings to All Griff Golfers!

The course will be closing for the season on Monday, December 13.

As we near the end of the year, I am pleased to report 2021 was the best member year The Griff has ever had.  Tons of new faces, and a lot of great golf made for a better season for all. My sincere thanks to every Griff golfer who played in 2021!

I can’t believe how incredibly lucky we were in spite of a season of mixed weather, and the continued challenges that COVID-19 brought us. We are fortunate that the golf course continues to operate in a normal fashion for individual players and group outings.  A big thanks to the entire Griff team, and the efforts of our restaurant partners at Cobber North.

This year marks the end of a long and storied Griff Golf career for our retiring PGA Head Pro, Joe Felder.  Joe has been a mentor, leader, and friend to The Griff Golf community for over three decades, and we will all miss him. With Joe’s departure, we welcome Patrick Massi, Jr., PGA as Patrick takes over the reins for Joe in 2022.

The New Year is right around the corner. Our Member renewal season begins January 1st; less than four weeks away. We can’t wait to have you back with us in 2022, so renew before May 1st to get early bird pricing! You may do so online: www.thegriffgolf.org/webtrac.

On behalf of the entire Griff family, we wish you and your families a Very Happy Holiday season. May peace, joy, and happiness fill all of your hearts.

Our very best wishes for a Happy New Year!

NEWS FROM OUR GOLF CLUBS

gwgc ladies
News from the GWGC

With the end of October came the end of the very successful 2021 GWGC golf season. Our membership increased almost 50 percent to 97 members. We made a lot of new friends, played a lot of golf, and ate a lot of lunches!

In September, the GWGC postponed its Club Championship several times because the weather would not cooperate. However, it was worth the wait. On a beautiful September day, after an exciting playoff with Deb Thron in front of an audience of club members, Melissa Bazar was crowned Club Champion. Congratulations to both Melissa and Deb and thanks for a memorable day! Read on...

Thanks again Bob!
Congratulations to our 2021 club champions!

Pro Tips: A Chipping and Pitching tip from your PGA PRO Joe Felder

• When Pitching or Chipping over rough, bunkers, or hazards it is recommended to use your fifty-six-degree sand wedge
• Choke down on the grip so that you’re almost touching the shaft
• Set up with the ball in the center and 80 percent of your weight on your forward leg (club will be much more perpendicular to the ground then a normal shot)
• Move shoulders back not using any wrists. Your arms and clubs would form the letter Y then rotate your body around so that your belt buckle faces the target
• You would practice trying to bush the ground and never take a divot and just hear the grass touching your face
• Hold your finish until the ball stops rolling that insures that you shifted your weight forward

Please call the golf shop 203-531-7261 and one of your PGA pros would love to help you with your game.

PATRICK MASSI, NEW PRO

For those of you who do not know me, my name is Patrick Massi, Jr.  For more than 14 years, I have worked as the Assistant Golf Professional under the direction of Joseph Felder, Head Golf Professional for the past 32 years here at The Griff.  Having grown up here as a junior golfer, I have pretty much held every position imaginable.  From my early years of parking and cleaning carts, picking up range balls, selling and assisting in the golf shop, to finally becoming a PGA Member and providing individual and group golf instruction.  I have done it all!  I have seen firsthand what it takes to run a successful business and operation.  The golf industry has gone through many changes and challenges, especially over the past two years, but responding to change has allowed us to remain profitable and highly valued by members and Town residents.

For those of you who do know me, they can attest that I am passionate, enthusiastic, and extremely dedicated to The Griff.  Being fortunate to have grown up here, I have witnessed every facet of running The Griff from operations, facilities, and management to enhancing guest experiences and player satisfaction.  Over the years, I have fostered many relationships among members, guests, workers, and players.  I appreciate what is needed to manage and enrich operations at The Griff.  It takes a team effort, and working in collaboration with the Town, the Operations Manager, and the Restaurant makes it successful.

I am very excited and extremely honored and humbled to be your next Head Golf Professional here at The Griff.  This is a dream come true for me, and I cannot wait for the 2022 golf season to begin!!  Please feel free to email me with any questions you may have.   Looking forward to seeing you on the first tee in the Spring!

Sincerely,

Patrick Massi, PGA
